Holding Facility Training & Preparing for the Assessment
with Captain Thomas Dunn
Location: Grafton Police Department
This training opportunity will consist of two modules: Holding Facility Training and Preparing for the Assessment. Holding Facility Training will be facilitated by Captain Thomas Dunn from Chelsea and Lieutenant Craig Denman from Holliston and Preparing for the Assessment will be facilitated by Lieutenant Laurene Spiess from Boston College.
Holding Facility Training:
This workshop will focus on the holding facility as it relates to Chapter 72 of the accreditation standards. This high liability function of any police department requires a proper holding facility meeting standards from the Commission which will help reduce risk, liability and enhance the professional standing of each agency.
Through a presentation and discussion, we will review the relevant standards, Agency Tour Checklist and examples of actual holding facilities providing participants a complete view of what is expected in this important chapter as well as provide an overview of upcoming pertinent changes in the 6th Edition as they apply to the Holding Facility.
Preparing for the Assessment:
This workshop covers the major facets of the on-site assessment phase beginning with two preliminary reviews: one by the agency's peers known as the mock assessment and the other by the Commission to determine an agency’s readiness to be assessed by the Commission. Timelines (in conjunction with the Commission’s meeting schedule), the Commission’s Checklist for Preparing for the On-site Assessment, what you can expect from the assessors, the station tour, assessment notification requirements (for accreditation only), the exit briefing with the assessors, the assessment team’s report, and finally the review before the Commission will all be discussed.
